Contractors
have been working on site over the past 2 days.
It looks like they’ve finished installing in the [Blue-coloured] Wall
Wrap to the external frame of the house.
This insulating Wall Wrap is an optional extra that we gladly agreed to
have installed. That’s because it will
provide an additional, proactive barrier to the elements and it will help protect
the steel frames and the walls against damage caused by wind, dust, rain and
condensation (which could otherwise expose the home to the risk of mould and
damp etc.).
The Wall
Wrap is installed in addition to the ceiling and wall insulation batts which
will provide even more noise and thermal insulation properties. McDonald Jones Homes will be installing R3.0
rated insulation batts in the roof/ceiling cavity. For the wall insulation, McDonald Jones Homes
initially offered us the standard R1.5 rated insulation batts. For a very reasonable extra cost, they agreed
to upgrade our wall insulation batts to the maximum possible size, being an R2.0
rated batt, which will fit within the wall cavities.
We’re now
waiting for the phone call from our Site Supervisor to invite us to inspect and
view the bricks before the brick-laying is due to commence (really soon we
hope). We’re hoping the Site Supervisor
will also agree to let us inspect the interiors and exteriors of the building
at the same time (fingers crossed he’ll be agreeable).
Our
Douglas 10M with Chase façade is really starting to take shape and form
now. We’re amazed with its dimensions
and we’re really glad the ceiling height throughout the home has been raised to
2.70 metres tall. For one of the homes
from McDonald Jones Homes’ smaller Gen
One range of homes, so far, it’s looking like it’s going to be a big home
for a 3 bedroom home. We’re so excited
seeing it all happening now.
Here’s
some photos that I took from outside the front security fencing at midday today
which show the status of the Wall Wrap that’s now been installed.
