Tuesday 6 May 2014
Our McDonald Jones Homes' Slab Supervisor phoned me on Monday 5 May 2014. He advised the site is now ready to have the excess spoil (earth, clay, soil) and some old building debris (which our demolition company apparently overlooked) removed from the site. He estimates there's about 10 to 15 tonnes of excess spoil and about 5 tonnes of debris to be removed before the framework for the new home can be erected next Tuesday 13 May 2014. McDonald Jones Homes had advised us upfront and from the start of things last year that we would be responsible to make those arrangements and pay for the removal of any such spoil.
With the help of the Slab Supervisor who could recommend a suitable contact, I spoke with a very friendly and helpful truck driver who is willing to assist. All being well, I'll meet him at the site on Thursday or Friday this week so that he can quote more accurately and remove all that stuff for us ASAP. Depending upon the amount of the old building debris and how it has been stacked, the cost could be anywhere up to a maximum of $1,500.00 approximately (worst case scenario) - fingers crossed.
Our bank processed and paid the first Progress Payment to McDonald Jones Homes today for the completion of the first stage of the build.
Hopefully by this time next week, we might be seeing some steel frame work being erected on our concrete slab. It's starting to get exciting.
We're still trying to source a suitable and reputable landscaper to landscape our new driveway, paved areas, lawns and garden areas. We have a Council approved Landscape Design Plan but we want to source some reasonable quotes. I was thinking of doing most of the Hard Yakka myself, but I'm not sure if I can interpret the quantities for the soils and subsoils etc. correctly. So we'll see what the quotes look like.
