Young 24 year old Jessica Mauboy hails from Darwin, the capital city of the Northern Territory, Australia. Jessica's father is Indonesian from West Timor and her mother is an Indigenous Australian Aboriginal.
On Friday 9 May 2014, Jessica will be performing as a guest artist at the Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen, Denmark, not as a contestant, but as an invited artist from Australia. Go girl! (We'll be tuning in as usual on the SBS Network here in Australia). Jessica's written a dance number especially for the Contest which she'll be performing live on stage in Copenhagen. Even though 'Australia' cannot enter as a contestant in the annual Eurovision Song Contest, it's been a very popular annual event on Australian TV since the early 1980's. This year is also the 40th anniversary of ABBA's winning number, Waterloo, which they performed in Brighton, England, in the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest.
Jessica has a new album called Beautiful and she has co-written nearly all the new songs on that album. My current favourite song from that album is called Never Be The Same. The following Youtube link shows Jessica's music video for that song (it's well worth checking it out).
