Well the
excess spoil at the front of the construction site was removed early this
morning. Two large Bulk Haulage dump trucks with rear trailers were
already at the site when I arrived there just before 7:00 a.m. this
morning. They were right on time. A small one-man Bobcat was used
to load the 25 tonnes of excess spoil into the trucks for haulage to a waste
disposal facility. They finished the job in less than half an hour.
It was an expensive morning - $1,500.00 to have that excess spoil
removed. Ouch.
There should
now be room on site for the delivery of the steel frames and roof trusses which
are due to be erected starting from Tuesday 13 May 2014 (only 5 days away
now). We can't wait to see what the place looks like when the framework
goes up. We're like 2 kids on Christmas Eve, eagerly waiting for Santa to
arrive.
I managed to
carefully and safely sneak a look at the rear perimeter of the concrete slab
while I was at the site this morning. We were really curious and
desperate to know just how far back the slab extends because it's hard to
visualise the depth from the front fencing. I was really pleased
with that aspect. The slab for the Douglas 10M with Chase façade is 21.21
metres long (about 65 feet 7 inches long in the old Empirical Scale). I'm
still concerned about the 8.45 metre (27 feet 8 inches) width. We were
really restricted with our choice of homes because the land is a narrow block,
only 12 metres (39 feet 4 inches) wide. I'm really hoping the rooms
inside the new home won't feel too small and pokey.
I can't wait
to post some photos of the steel frames next week (weather permitting).
