We've got our front door now!

Tuesday 19 August 2014

A lot of work’s been continuing over the past week with installing all the interior Gyprock walls and ceilings.

We’ve had a lot of heavy, torrential rain over the past few days and it’s clearing now.  Some areas in Sydney had more than the monthly average rainfall within the first 48 hours.  Our new roof has had its first decent rainfall (it’s a pity our 4,500 litre rainwater tank hasn’t been installed just yet, we could have harvested a lot of rooftop rainwater).  Speaking of the roof, there’s a few areas of the roof that have us concerned and disappointed.  Some of the roof tiles here and there look like they need to be slightly adjusted.  In addition to that, I think it looks like the timber roof batons and tiles in the centre front roof appear to be bowing and sagging.  The next time I see the Site Supervisor I’ll be asking him to have a careful look at the roof and to have it fixed.

Here’s some photos that I took at midday today from outside the front security fencing.  They show the status of the following work that’s been achieved since the last photos:

1.      We now have a front door!  The wooden door is made by Hume Doors.  This particular MDJ4 door is exclusive to McDonald Jones Homes.  The 4 x translucent glass panels in the door align with the glass panels in the front bedroom windows.  The door is 2,340mm (7 feet 8⅛ inches) high x 920mm (3 feet 7 inches) wide.  The door is yet to be painted in Taubmans’ Night Shade colour.

2.      Our Gainsborough Omni Trick Lock front door handle has also been installed (see the notes towards the end of this posting for more details about the Omni Tri Lock door handle).

3.      The interior Gyprock walls and ceilings have been installed in the Garage and elsewhere throughout the house.

4.      We now have internal steps installed at the left rear of the Garage for the internal entry into the home.

5.      The ridiculous “architecturally designed lockable storage cabinet” in the Garage that Council insisted upon including in our Development Approval (DA) is pictured in the far back right corner of the Garage.

6.      We now have downpipes connected to the rooftop guttering around the house.  The white downpipes will be painted in due course.

7.      Work has commenced on constructing a small platform and steps at the Laundry door (along the western side of the house, on the left side of these photos).

This is the Gainsborough Omni Tri Lock front door handle.  The door lever is concealed behind the rectangular handle bar.  On the inside of the door, the lever handle is mounted in the normal position.

  1. It's good that you are keeping a close eye on the work yourself. A lot of individuals and families are used to putting complete trust in their builders, which is a complete mistake. Even if they do excellent work and are trustworthy that are only human. I hope everything turns out just right for you and yours.
