On
Thursday 9 October 2014 the security fence and gates at the front of the
property/construction site were removed by McDonald Jones Homes.
McDonald
Jones Homes had left us a pallet of spare Gunmetal Blue-coloured house bricks
for our use if/as necessary later on. The pallet of spare bricks was left
standing in the front yard. Since the fencing and gates were removed on
Thursday, one third of those bricks have been stolen and have gone
walking. It's amazing how some people can think the bricks were left
there just so they could help themselves to them... bastards.
The Digital TV Antenna was installed on the rear rooftop during the week and can be seen in the following photos.
Pete and I
visited the site on Saturday to meet a concrete contractor who came to the site
to give us a quote for laying the new concrete driveway and other paved areas
etc.
I took the
following photos of the rear of the house and backyard area while we were there
today.
The backyard has turned into an absolute jungle with overgrown
grass and weeds. We still have a very sizeable and comfortable backyard of
approximately 265m² (870² feet) at the rear of the house. That is very
generous in comparison to modern and contemporary trends in suburban Sydney
nowadays.
We're keen
to start getting our hands dirty and get stuck into cleaning up the backyard before
we can commence the landscaping work (which we're also going to do
ourselves). It was a really hot 30ºC (86ºF) today with blue skies and bright sunshine. It's going
to be a very hot time of the year to be doing all the Hard Yakka and the
planting of new trees and shrubs and laying the new turf etc.

We'll be planting mass plantings of Australian Native trees and shrubs, especially some fast-growing, mature and advanced shrubs right along the entire perimeter/boundary fences, which will be used as privacy screening from the neighbouring properties. I anticipate that by summer of 2015/2016, the neighbours' properties will not be visible from our backyard.
The photo above was taken from inside the rear Alfresco Cabana and shows the backyard jungle awaiting our working-bee.
