Day 2 of brick-laying work

Saturday 21 June 2014

Today is the Winter Solstice in Australia and our shortest day of the year.  We’ve had beautiful weather today, blue skies, warm, lazy sunshine and a maximum daily temperature of 19⁰C (66.2⁰F).  Not bad for winter weather, but there seems to be some severe weather heading towards south-eastern Australia later next week.  We did have a frost yesterday morning but the daytime weather lately has been magnificent.  We’ve been blessed with great weather for the construction work.

The Brickies were back on site today (Saturday) laying the bricks.  We took the photos that appear below from outside the front security fencing this afternoon after work had finished for the day.  These photos show the status of work as at the end of the second day of brick-laying (today).

McDonald Jones Homes is laying the Gunmetal Blue coloured bricks with an off-white coloured mortar.  The front of the house will be cement-rendered and painted, specifically, the front wall towards the west (left) side of the house.  All other walls will have the exposed Gunmetal Blue brick surfaces.  We're really pleased with the colours of the bricks, they're just what we wanted.  It’s so fulfilling to see our Douglas 10M with Chase façade really taking shape and form after so many months of planning to get to this point.

We can’t wait to visit the construction site on Monday morning with the Site Supervisor.  Only 2 more sleeps away.  We’re dying to see the dimensions of the rooms inside the framework for the very first time (and I hope we’re not going to be disappointed).
