We watched our little Jessica Mauboy, an indigenous Aboriginal songstress from Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia, wow them at the 59th annual Eurovision Song Contest last night via delayed telecast on SBS TV! We Australians have been watching the Eurovision Song Contest via SBS TV since 1983. Jess is such a humble, big-hearted and down-to-earth person and she sang to an audience of 180 Million people watching the biggest music contest in the world. Jess wrote and performed a fabulous song called Sea Of Flags especially for her invited appearance during the interval act for the Second Semi Final show. It was an historical moment in the history of the Eurovision Song Contest, because a country from outside Europe has never previously been represented in the Song Contest. Jess sang her heart-out as an invited guest artist (not a contestant). Jess' performance has already made its appearance on Youtube.
Here's some photos that I've manged to collate about the event.
For some bizarre reason, Jess was joined on stage by an astronaut who descended from the ceiling with the Australian National Flag and the Australian Aboriginal Flag.
Before the show, Jess was visited back-stage by another beautiful and famous Aussie, Crown Princess Mary of Denmark and her son and daughter. Princess Mary comes from Tasmania, Australia, and is married to Crown Prince Frederick of Denmark.
From Darwin to Denmark. Not a bad journey for our little girl from the Bush! We're so proud of her.
