Status of work by the end of Week 3 of construction work

Saturday 3 May 2014

We're now at the end of the 3rd week into the construction work on our Douglas 10M with Chase façade.  A lot has been done and achieved in just 3 weeks.

On Tuesday 29 April 2014, we received the Tax Invoice from McDonald Jones Homes for the payment of our First Progress Payment (just a tad under $45,000.00).  The bank will be paying that for us within the required 7 days.

On Thursday 1 May 2014, workers on site appeared to be trimming the concrete slab and removing any excess or protruding concrete from wherever necessary.

Yesterday, Friday 2 May 2014, there were workers/plumbers (?) on site.  They were digging trenches and laying more pipes around the external perimeter of the new concrete slab that was laid on Monday.  We’re not really sure what all these other pipes are for.  We took some photos from outside the front security fencing this afternoon and I've attached them to this posting.

The new concrete slab has started to dry and cure and has turned a lighter colour in its appearance, and in doing so, it seems to make the dimensions of the slab look bigger.  We’re amazed at the height of the concrete slab.  The new home’s going to be raised-up much higher on its foundations than we’d previously imagined.  It’s still hard trying to visualise the depth and dimensions of the various rooms just from outside the front fencing.  We can’t wait to be allowed a visit to the slab to quell our curiosity if/when the Site Supervisor might be able to let us.

We’ve started to get some cold, wet, autumn weather now and our days are getting shorter. Sunset today was at 5:14 p.m.  It was only a cloudy maximum of 15⁰C here in western Sydney today.  Pete’s brother and sister-in-law in Katoomba, up in the Blue Mountains (about 90 minutes west of us), shivered through a maximum of 5⁰C today.  It’s been snowing a lot, further west in Lithgow and Orange and further south across the Snowy Mountains. The snows are early this year, we’re only 2/3 of the way through autumn and 1st June is the start of winter in Australia.

Here’s a picture of our Douglas 10M with Chase façade, a copy of the Floor Plan and the photos that I took on a cloudy, cold, autumn afternoon today.
